Ajinkya Rahane is on the brink of achieving a significant milestone in the IPL as he inches closer to completing 800 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He needs 55 more runs to become the fourth player in the history of the league to score 800 runs vs RCB.

The IPL 2025 season is set to kick off in about 24 hours as RCB will take on defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The clash will be held at Eden Gardens Stadium on March 22 starting from 7.30 PM.

Meanwhile, KKR will have a new captain this year. Since Shreyas Iyer left to join PBKS, the Knight Riders have appointed Ajinkya Rahane as the new captain of the franchise.

Ajinkya Rahane Nearing Big Milestone Vs RCB

Ajinkya Rahane will lead KKR in the IPL 2025 season opener clash against RCB. Meanwhile, the curtain raiser will offer Rahane an opportunity to set a new record.

The experienced batter, who has played 23 innings against RCB so far, has amassed 745 runs and now requires just 55 more to join an elite club of players who have dominated the Bengaluru-based franchise.

If Rahane reaches this landmark, he will become only the fourth batter in IPL history to score 800 or more runs against RCB. Currently, the list is led by MS Dhoni, who has accumulated 864 runs in 33 innings, followed closely by David Warner with 862 runs.

Rohit Sharma holds the third spot with 831 runs in 32 innings. Rahane, with his 745 runs, is just a step away from etching his name alongside these greats.

Will Ajinkya Rahane Be A Good Captain For KKR?

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have taken a bold step by appointing Ajinkya Rahane as their captain for the IPL 2025 season, replacing Shreyas Iyer.

Before taking over at KKR, Rahane had captained Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiant, leading in 25 IPL matches between 2017 and 2019, winning 9 games and losing 16.

While his record may not be the most impressive, his leadership at home has been a strong point. At home, Rahane had led his team to 6 wins in 11 games.
