IPL Unveils Major Rule Overhauls For 2025 Season
The BCCI hosted all 10 IPL team captains for a meeting at its headquarters in Mumbai and discussed multiple key aspects, including lifting the saliva ban and addressing the dew factor in the second innings.
One of the significant developments for IPL 2025 is the lifting of the ban on saliva, which was first introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cricbuzz reports that players can now use saliva on the ball, which will help swing and reverse swing.
Moreover, to address the impact of dew and maintain a fair balance between bat and ball, the BCCI has introduced a two-ball rule for the second innings. Teams will now be allowed to take a second new ball from the 11th over onwards, but only if deemed necessary by the umpires based on the extent of dew. However, this rule will not apply to afternoon matches where dew is not a factor.
