Ajinkya Rahane has arrived in Kolkata for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The senior Indian cricketer received a warm reception by fans of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise as he was making his way into the team hotel on March 11.
Rahane was roped in by the KKR management last year during the IPL 2025 mega auction. A veteran of 185 IPL games, the 36-year-old was also appointed as the new captain of the KKR franchise for IPL 2025 to fill in for the exit of 2024 title-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer.
Ajinkya Rahane visits Kolkata, greets KKR fans
On Tuesday, March 11; senior Indian batter and IPL veteran Ajinkya Rahane landed in Kolkata for the impending IPL 2025 season for the KKR franchise. Upon his arrival, the 36-year-old was greeted with a slew of KKR fans outside the team hotel.
Ajinkya Rahane was roped in by the KKR management during the IPL 2025 mega auction at his base price of Rs. 1.50 crore. The cricketer previously served the CSK group for two years in 2023 and 2024. The upcoming IPL 2025 season marks Rahane’s second coming to the KKR, as he also donned the franchise’s jersey back in 2022.
Apart from Ajinkya Rahane, KKR’s South African-based players like fast bowler Anrich Nortje and blistering wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock also arrived in Kolkata on March 11.
As per the IPL 2025 schedule, the KKR franchise is set to face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the opening match of the season at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 22. Ajinkya Rahane and co. will subsequently travel to Guwahati for an away fixture against the Rajasthan Royals on March 26.
