In a recent interview with 7 Cricket, Mitchell Starc opened up on his most heartbreaking cricket memory. He revealed that getting dismissed on 99 against India in Mohali Test and missing out on a hundred by just 1 run is a memory that will haunt him forever.
Mitchell Starc, widely popular for his lethal pace bowling, once showed his brilliance with the bat. During the Border-Gavaskar series in 2013, India and Australia clashed in the 3rd Test in Mohali. Australia were off to a steady start with a 139-run opening stand. Smith also scored 92 but it was Mitchell Starc who stole the limelight completely with an extraordinary innings with bat.
Mitchell Starc was once dismissed on 99 vs India!
Batting at no.9, Mitchell Starc brought up his 50 and was racing to a maiden Test match hundred. However, Ishant Sharma’s length ball lured Starc for a drive, but he mistimed it by miles. A healthy edge was plucked by MS Dhoni as Starc had to walk back on 99. He missed his maiden Test century by just 1 run, and this memory still remains the most haunting one of Starc’s career.
In a recent conversation with wife Alyssa Healy on 7Cricket, Mitchell Starc confirmed that getting dismissed on 99 is a memory he perhaps won’t be able to move on from.
Healy also recalled the memory stating how she went rushing home to witness the moment but Starc was dismissed moments after she switched on the broadcast. Regardless, Starc’s 99 runs contribution was vital for Australia as they posted a 408-run total in the first innings.
Starc to spearhead Australia’s pace attack in Perth Test
In less than 48 hours, the Perth Test between India and Australia will go on floors. For Australia, the pacy wicket of Optus Stadium will suit their fast bowlers, and hence, Pat Cummins is likely to play 4 seamers. Mitchell Starc will lead the attack, with Josh Hazlewood and skipper Cummins following him. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh could be added to the playing XI as an extra seam option with Nathan Lyon being the only spinner.
