The high-octane Border Gavaskar Trophy is all set to start with a opening Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth. It is big game for both the teams and the preparations for the same is going in full swing. India though have some selection concerns, with Rohit Sharma not available due to the birth of his second child while Shubman Gill injured himself during practice.

There were reports that Shubman Gill will surely miss the opening Test, but India's bowling coach, Morne Morkel has now revealed that he could still make it to the playing XI. Morne Morkel in his press conference on 20th November mentioned that Shubman Gill is improving with each passing day and they will take the final call on the star batter on the morning of the Test match.

Devdutt Padikkal To Replace Gill At 3 If Batter Does Not Recover

Morne Morkel also stated that Shubman Gill played well during match stimulation and they are still hoping that he will play the Perth Test.

"He is improving on Day by day basis. We will take a call on the morning of the test. He played well in the match simulation in the build up. So fingers crossed."

Meanwhile, Devdutt Padikkal has been added to the main squad and he would most likely bat at number three in the absence of Shubman Gill. KL Rahul is likely to open the innings while Nitish Reddy could also make his Test debut in Perth. India are coming into this series on the back of a whitewash by the Kiwis and this is an important five games for both the team as they try to make it to the WTC Final. Australia look favourite to win the series as of now, but India have won their last two Test series in the country and it promises to be an enthralling battle.
