Gujarat Titans (GT) finalised as many as 5 retention for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan comprised the retention list as GT are now left with INR 69 crore to spend on the auction table.

Gujarat Titans’ squad lacks all-rounders, especially bowling all-rounders. Tewatia and Shahrukh can bat in middle-order with Sudharsan and Gill holding the fort in top order. Hence, instead of focusing on extending batting depth, the GT think tank should go for bowling all-rounders.

Plenty of options will be available under the hammer, and budget is unlikely to be an issue for GT, who possesses an INR 69 crore purse despite locking their core at the retention deadline.

Why GT Will Target Mitchell Marsh?

Mitchell Marsh is a powerful all-rounder, known for his big-hitting ability in the middle-order and his handy medium-fast bowling. His IPL stats include 42 games where he has scored 666 runs and scalped 37 wickets.

Marsh has been in excellent form and specially so with the bat as he played match-winning knocks for Australia in T20Is and ODIs. His base price is kept at INR 2 crores. Given his status, Marsh could attract multiple bidders, leading to an inflated market value. However, GT can definitely go all in and get Marsh under INR 10 crore and secure an impactful all-rounder.

Harshal Patel is an experienced IPL campaigner who has excelled in the role of a death bowler. In IPL 2021, Harshal bagged 31 wickets for RCB and won a purple cap. In the same season, he also slammed 59 runs with the bat.

As an all-rounder, his utility as a lower-order batter adds further value. For GT, Harshal can spearhead the pace bowling attack. He can make an impact with the new ball in the powerplay as well as the old one in the death overs. Hence, for a reasonable price, GT should definitely go after Harshal Patel.

Why GT Will Target Krunal Pandya?

Krunal Pandya is another versatile all-rounder who could fit perfectly into the Gujarat Titans’ setup. With his left-arm spin and powerful batting, Krunal has been a consistent performer for Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants. In 127 games, Krunal scalped 76 wickets and scored 1647 runs with a healthy strike rate of 132.82.

Gujarat Titans, who could benefit from an experienced player who can contribute with both bat and ball, would find Krunal’s role in their middle order and spin attack invaluable. Additionally, leadership experience and sustainability under pressure would make him very valuable in balancing the team.
