Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have a big dent in their squad as they released skipper KL Rahul at the retention deadline. Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni, and Mohsin Khan found a place on the retention list. With that, LSG now has a remaining purse of INR 69 crore for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction.

LSG's primary focus will be on marquee lists where a captaincy candidate will have their attention. Besides, LSG also needs a couple of top-order batters along with some all-rounders. Since Pooran is the only overseas player retained, LSG have plenty of room to accommodate more foreign players.

Hence, LSG will certainly aim to secure overseas players who can enhance their batting depth, provide leadership, or offer versatility with both bat and ball.

Why Will LSG Target Harry Brook?

Harry Brook, the explosive English batter, has proven his mettle in T20 cricket due to his ability to play fearless cricket under pressure. He has yet to prove himself in the IPL, but his record in T20I is self-explanatory. Across 39 games, he slammed 707 runs with a 146.07 strike rate. Recently, he also hit a 300 against Pakistan in a Test match.

Meanwhile, for LSG, Brook is a versatile middle-order batsman who can accelerate the innings and finish games with his power-hitting. His ability to play spin well and dominate pace bowling could help Lucknow in crucial matches, particularly on challenging surfaces.

Why Will LSG Target Sam Curran?

Sam Curran's all-round abilities make him a dream pick for any T20 side. In the previous auction, he was picked by PBKS for a record price of INR 18.50 crore. He repaid the faith by picking up 16 wickets and 270 runs in 13 games. While PBKS didn't retain him, LSG can pursue him at the mega auction.

As a bowler, Curran thrives in death overs, and as a batsman, he can play impactful cameos lower down the order. LSG has never had a constant all-rounder who can deliver when it matters the most. Curran does just that. He brings balance and flexibility to a playing XI.

David Warner is the most consistent run-scorer of IPL's history. He has appeared for teams in 184 games, scoring 6565 runs with 4 hundred and a strike rate of 40.52. Warner, who has vast experience and leadership qualities, can be a perfect dual-purpose signing for LSG.

As an opener, he has provided an aggressive start and as a leader, he has shown tactical brilliance along with the ability to guide the young guns on his way. If LSG wants a left-handed opener, Warner will make a great pair that can certainly dismantle the opposition's attack.
