Seems like the picture is getting clearer and clearer with each passing day in relation to India's batting conundrum. Shubman Gill who injured his left thumb while fielding in the net session was ruled out of the 1st Test in Perth. Now, as per reports, his replacement in the playing XI has been announced.
As per RevSportz, Devdutt Padikkal has been added to the main squad and is likely to replace Gill at number 3 for the first Test in Perth. While the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad was sent back to India, a couple of days earlier, Padikkal was asked to stay back in Australia, and now it seems he will make his away Test debut.
Devdutt Padikkal made his Test debut for India during the England series, earlier this year. He looked in impressive touch, but despite producing good numbers was ignored for the Bangladesh and New Zealand series.
However, with so many injury issues in the Indian camp, the team management decided to give him a rope in the first Test, as he is set to bat at Gill's position.
Yash Dayal in reserves as India go in with three quicks
Unlike Padikkal, seamer Yash Dayal doesn't get a place in the side and will stay with the side as a part of the travelling reserves.
India are expected to go in with a pace attack comprising of Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep and either of Mohammed Siraj or debutant Harshit Rana.
Plus, with the seaming conditions on offer, India are set to give Test debut cap to Nitish Kumar Reddy, who will fulfill the role of the seam bowling all-rounder. Moreover, reports also came up that R Ashwin will be the sole spinner and Ravindra Jadeja won't get a place in the side.
