Virat Kohli is just a run away from attaining a significant IPL record against one of its most-celebrated teams, the Chennai Super Kings. The legendary Indian batsman will be expected to achieve the same through the opening match of the upcoming IPL 2024 season between RCB and the MS Dhoni-led defending champions.


Virat Kohli set to join Shikhar Dhawan for THIS record

Perennial IPL legend and all-time leading run-scorer Virat Kohli has minted 999 runs against CSK since the inaugural edition of the tournament. The dashing Indian batsman is just a run away from becoming only the second cricketer in IPL history to scale the 1,000-run mark against the ‘Yellow Brigade’.

Current Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan is the only other player who has previously achieved the landmark figure. The legendary opener has tallied 1,105 runs against CSK across 30 IPL innings at an imperial average of over 44. Moreover, Dhawan strikes at 132.17 and has a century and eight fifties to his name against the five-time IPL winners.

Apart from the two Indian cricketers, Rohit Sharma (823 runs), David Warner (779 runs) and Dinesh Karthik (749 runs) have emerged as the next most prolific IPL batters against the CSK.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will be expected to join Shikhar Dhawan in the rare 1,000-run list when he will be taking field for the RCB in their opening match of the upcoming IPL 2024 season.

RCB is scheduled to square-off against the CSK on March 22 as per their IPL 2024 phase one schedule. The much-awaited contest will be staged at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
