As the IPL 2024 season approaches, cricket fans are eagerly awaiting the return of veteran cricketer Shikhar Dhawan to the field. The Punjab Kings skipper is leaving no stone unturned in his preparations, focusing on his fitness and gameplay to make a strong comeback after a notable absence from competitive cricket.

Speaking about his preparations for IPL 2024, Dhawan emphasised his focus on fitness, skill enhancement, and visualisation. He expressed confidence in his ability to deliver a stellar performance for Punjab Kings, stating,

"The preparations for the IPL are going well. Now I am focusing on my fitness, skills, and visualization as well. This season, I see myself doing well in the field."

Dhawan, who was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 8.5 crore in IPL 2022, took over the captaincy reins in the subsequent year. Despite the team's lackluster performances in the past two seasons, Dhawan remains optimistic about their chances in the upcoming tournament. He highlighted the team's main objective, saying,

"Our main goal is to help Punjab Kings in clinching the trophy, while also adhering to a strong process and preparation."

Dhawan, who last played for India in December 2022, is determined to showcase his power in the upcoming IPL season. Despite missing out on national selection, the 38-year-old has remained a consistent performer in the IPL, scoring a staggering 6617 runs in 216 innings, making him the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament's history.

The left-handed batter has been a vital asset for Punjab Kings since joining the franchise, displaying remarkable consistency with the bat. In the previous editions of the IPL, Dhawan amassed 460 runs in 14 matches in 2022 and followed it up with 373 runs in 11 matches the following year, maintaining an impressive average of 41.

As the IPL 2024 is set to commence on March 22, 2024, all eyes will be on Shikhar Dhawan as he leads Punjab Kings in their quest for glory.
