Shafali Verma tonked seven fours and five maximums to list 71 scintillating runs from just 37 balls against Gujarat Giants in their WPL 2024 dead-rubber.

Chasing 127 for a win, the 20-year-old shared 31 runs with opening partner Meg Lanning and another 94 runs for the third wicket with number four Jemimah Rodrigues.

Unfortunately for Verma, she perished at the brink of victory while trying to knock Tanuja Kanwar over the mid-off boundary.

Through the course of her innings, the star batter also completed 4,000 runs in her T20 career. Remarkably, the Indian opener has tallied over 1,600 of those runs while representing her nation at the international level, all while maintaining an astonishing strike-rate of over 130.

Regardless, Shafali Verma’s latest effort against Gujarat Giants marked her third half-century of the ongoing WPL 2024 season, and led to an emphatic seven-wicket win for the Delhi Capitals. It also propelled her among the top five run-getters of the season, finding herself just behind Gujarat Giants skipper Beth Mooney’s tally (285 runs) with 265 runs from eight innings.

Shafali Verma will now turn up for the Delhi Capitals in the final of the WPL 2024 season, where they will face either the RCB Women or defending champions Mumbai Indians, depending on the outcome of the forthcoming Eliminator.
