Unbeaten Team India will take on heavyweights Australia in match number 51 of the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup on June 24. The blockbuster showdown, set to be hosted by the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia, marks the final Super Eight fixture for both sides this competition.

The Indian team is yet to lose a game this tournament, having defeated Ireland, Pakistan and USA to top the Group A points table before pounding Afghanistan and Bangladesh in their first couple of Super Eight outings.

Australia also topped the Group B points table to qualify for the Super Eights, where they subsequently thumped Bangladesh by 28 runs (DLS method). However, the Mitchell Marsh-led Australian unit recently had their semifinal prospects hampered by losing out to Afghanistan at Kingstown on June 22.

As fans from both sides brace themselves for a potential India vs Australia thriller, here at OneCricket, we take a look at three possible player battles that can influence the outcome of the contest.

Indian opener Rohit Sharma has already crumbled in front of left-arm pacemen thrice in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup. Bowlers like Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan), Saurabh Netravalkar (USA) and Fazalhaq Farooqi (Afghanistan) have all accounted for a dismissal each during Sharma’s three of previous four outings with the bat.

Australian left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc will be aiming to capitalize on Sharma’s struggles when he will helm his team’s new-ball attack against India on June 24. The speedster has already dismissed the Indian opener once in T20I cricket at the expense of just four runs.

David Warner vs Jasprit Bumrah

Legendary Australian opener David Warner averages just one against Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah in T20I cricket. However, across all T20 matches, Warner holds an average of 28 against the speedster.

The Australian opening batter has already punched out match-winning half-centuries against Oman and Bangladesh this tournament, and will be aiming to sustain his prolific run against India in his swansong tournament. Bumrah, with 10 wickets to his name, will be targeting to collect more wickets under his belt before the 2024 T20 World Cup reaches its knockout stages.

Virat Kohli vs Adam Zampa

Out-of-form Indian opener Virat Kohli will be aiming to add some much-needed runs under his belt before heading into the final week of the tournament. Slated to face perennial arch-rivals Australia, the cricketer will likely come across familiar nemesis Adam Zampa in the middle-overs of the Indian innings. Kohli has already tallied 90 runs against the Australian spinner at an average of 30 in all their T20I meetings.

Zampa, meanwhile, is on a roll for Australia this T20 World Cup considering the 32-year-old leg-spinner has already scalped 13 wickets in just six innings.
