After witnessing the highs in the ODI series, the Pakistan team was brought down to Earth in the Test format as the Shan Masood led side lost the series, 2-0. The team did put up a brave fight in the second Test, but ultimately couldn't cross the hurdle.

The visiting Pakistan side faced an embarrassing innings defeat in the second Test match in Cape Town, however, the batters, particularly Babar Azam and Shan Masood did put up a fight, but they were the only shining light as the team were whitewashed by the WTC finalists, South Africa.

For the Shan Masood led side, there were a couple of great performers, however, there were also players who couldn't live up to the expectations and failed to deliver the goods. In this article, we'll talk about 3 such players who underperformed in the Tests.

3) Mohammad Rizwan

Scores of 27, 3, 46, and 41 aren't bad numbers by any means, but if you look at the context of the game, most of time Rizwan threw his wicket away after getting set. Take for instance the first innings of the Cape Town Test - he was batting well at 46, but he played a needless shot and his stumps got castled.

Again, in the second innings, he was set, but when the team needed him to deliver the goods, he got dismissed. While the likes of Shan Masood understood the situation and played a big knock in the second innings, Rizwan couldn't go on to achieve the heights which he should have.

2) Naseem Shah

Another big name who couldn't perform and was dropped from the second Test in Cape Town. Naseem Shah has endured a tough 2024 as the pacer was dropped from the England Test tour, and after failing to perform in the first Test, the selectors excluded him from the Cape Town Test as well.

While the likes of Mohammad Abbas consistently put the pressure on South African batters in first Test, Naseem's lines and lengths were disrupted as he looked a pale shadow of his former self.

1) Kamran Ghulam

Touted as the successor of Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam scored a century on his Test debut Vs England, but against the moving ball in South African conditions, he was found out. In 2 Tests, he only managed to score 98 runs, at an average of 24.

He never looked at his fluent best and scored just 40 runs in the heavy loss at the Cape Town Test as the Pakistan batting flunked and lost the series, 2-0.
