South Africa cantered themselves to an easy 10-wicket win over Pakistan on Day 4 of the Cape Town Test. Visiting captain Shan Masood delayed the inevitable with a fighting century before South African bowlers set up a 2-0 series triumph for the hosts.

Here’s the timeline of how SA vs PAK panned out in Cape Town:

SA vs PAK Highlights: Shan Masood Adds 99 More Runs To The Total Until Lunch

Pakistan lost overnight batter and night watchman Khurran Shahzad to Marco Jansen for a cautious 18 earlier on Day 4. Kamran Ghulam at number four punched out 28 runs from 42 balls with four boundaries before he was castled by Kagiso Rabada. Captain and unbeaten Shan Masood, on the other hand, remained defiant in his overnight approach to add another 99 runs to the Pakistan total by the time of lunch.

The dashing opening batter, who resumed his innings at 102* on the fourth morning, reached 137* at the end of the session alongside fellow unbeaten batter Saud Shakeel (16*) to steer Pakistan to 312-3 from 77 overs.

SA vs PAK Highlights: Pakistan Surpass 421 To Take Unlikely Lead

Shan Masood’s marathon knock came to a conclusion earlier in the afternoon session as he was trapped in front by South African pace debutant Kwena Maphaka. Top-scoring with 145 runs from 251 balls, Masood carted 17 boundaries in his regal innings. The preceding over, Saud Shakeel also edged one towards Aiden Markram off Kagiso Rabada as the visitors crashed to 329-5 from 83.3 overs.

A fighting 88-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Mohammad Rizwan and Agha Salman navigated Pakistan past the 400-run mark. Both cricketers scored valiant 40s each from their ends until the two well-set batters were toppled by Keshav Maharaj within a single spell. Pakistan eventually went past 421 to claim an unlikely lead, but Maharaj ensured the visitors had its advantage restricted to just 57 runs.

The senior Proteas spinner picked up his third wicket of the innings in the form of Aamer Jamal, while Rabada had Mir Hamza top-edging one towards Maphaka as Pakistan’s second innings came to an end at 478 in 122.1 overs.

SA vs PAK Highlights: Bedingham Guns Down South African Target Before Stumps

Chasing just 58 runs with a handful of overs remaining on Day 4, South African opener David Bedingham whacked an unbeaten 44 from 30 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. His senior partner Aiden Markram also made 14* at a near run-a-ball as South Africa consumed just 7.1 overs to surpass its target.

South Africa’s 10-wicket victory ensured the Proteas sealed the two-match Test series by a 2-0 margin, as they attained some all-important winning momentum before heading into the 2025 WTC final later this year.
