The Indian men's cricket team has recently dropped to third place in the ICC Test team rankings after a disappointing 1-3 loss to Australia in the latest Border-Gavaskar Trophy. They now sit at 109 rating points, which isn’t great considering they made it to the finals of the last two World Test Championships. Notably, England, who also didn't have a great outing in the 2023-25 WTC cycle sits just below India with 106 rating points.
Australia, the current champions of the 2023 World Test Championship, is sitting pretty at the top with 126 rating points. South Africa, after completely dominating Pakistan in a recent two-match Test series at home, is in second place with 112 points.
Position | Team | Matches | Points | Rating |

Top 5 Men's Test Team After ICC's latest rankings
South Africa started the series against Pakistan ranked third in the world and boosted their ranking with two solid wins. On the other hand, India's slip to number three exposed their wounds against Australia in the BGT, with the most concerning being the poor form of star players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
India's Painful Exit From WTC 2025 Final
For the unaware, India kicked off the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a huge 295-run victory over Australia at the Optus Stadium in November 2024, but they couldn’t keep the momentum. India ended up suffering three straight losses, including a painful 10-wicket defeat in Adelaide and an 184-run loss in Melbourne. The third Test in Brisbane was a washout due to rain, ending in a draw.
Australia's strong display not only secured them the top spot in the Test rankings but also guaranteed their place in the World Test Championship final for the second year running. They'll be going head-to-head with South Africa in a much-anticipated final at Lord's from June 11 to 15.
