On Sunday, December 29, South Africa scripted history as they become the first team to qualify for World Test Championship (WTC) final. The Proteas handed Pakistan a two-wickets defeat to reach the finals for the first time in three editions of this prestigious Test tournament.
The iconic Lord's Stadium will host the 2025 WTC Final from June 11-15. It was an emotional win for the Proteas as they were behind in the game and had to rely on Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada to seal the win for them. They will either face India or Australia in WTC 2025 final.
Pakistan vs South Africa Match Summary
It was a crucial match for the Proteas and they started strongly in the Test as they reduced Pakistan to just 211 runs in the first innings courtesy of Corbin Bosch and Dane Paterson's stunning spells. Meanwhile, Pakistan too were on top of their game as their bowlers also restricted the Proteas to 301 runs.
In the second innings as well, the visitors couldn't do much with the bat and fell for 237 runs, setting a target of a mere 148 runs. Much to everyone's surprise, South Africa had a troubled start and were 27/3 after stumps on day 3.
On day 4, Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram started positively, but then came a period where the Proteas lost wickets like dominos and were reduced to 98/8. However, Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen sealed a win with a four and helped the Proteas qualify for WTC 2025 final.
