Five years after the deadly outbreak of Coronavirus which killed millions of people, there is a new virus in town, and just like Covid-19, its roots also lies in China. Two cases of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) was found in Bengaluru which has created fear in the minds of the people.

The HMPV is already circulating globally and has also reached India as people fear that another lockdown is on the cards if the situation doesn't get under control. During Covid-19, everything was disrupted, including all the sporting events like the Indian Premier League (IPL). In 2020, the league was moved to UAE as the season started in September, instead of the usual, March-May timeline.

The following year, IPL started during its usual season, but due to the increasing cases within the teams, the league was once again shifted to UAE as the second half of the IPL took place there. Will we see a similar situation this time around?.

Will IPL 2025 be postponed?

As per the Health department of India, this virus is not new, and has been there for many years and people need to maintain hygiene in order to avoid the deadly virus.

The IPL is still two months away, and no confirmation has been received regarding the postponement of the event. However, if the outbreak is severe, the board officials might take a call and could be tempted to either suspend the event or move it to a different nation.

The IPL 2025 season will begin on March 14, 2025 and will end on May 25. Just like the previous three seasons, 75 matches will be played this time around as well.
