KKR IPL 2025 Retention List: Who Could Be Kolkata's Most Expensive Retained Player?

Rome was not built in a day. It took tiresome hard work and dedication, among other things, to build something that the world had never seen before. Similarly, if we talk about cricket, precisely what is happening in the IPL, we have seen how Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have become the faces of the world’s grandest franchise league. They backed players from the beginning and got the results that they were looking for.

However, under their beloved Gautam Gambhir, Kolkata Knight Riders did not have to do all these last year. Despite winning two titles earlier, they looked like a unit with scattered pieces for quite a few years. Gambhir turned the table by snapping his fingers like Thanos once he took charge, and out of nowhere, it looked like a well-oiled machine on their way to win their third IPL title. Despite having debatable auction recruits, they lifted the title with supreme dominance, something no one saw coming.

Unfortunately for KKR, things are about to change. They had their jigsaw puzzle solved, but at the wrong time. As the mega auction is approaching, they have to re-strategise everything now. And to make matters worse, they don’t have Gambhir in charge anymore due to national commitments.

Rinku Singh: KKR's Potential Top Retention Before IPL 2025

Hustling takes you to a whole new world, and Rinku Singh is a prime example of this phrase if you want to see it in reality. He averages 59.87 in T20Is after 26 games, with a strike rate reading 175.45. Surely, even if there is a small debate regarding who is India’s best T20I batter at present, considering Suryakumar Yadav is reaching new heights every day all the day, you can’t find a player with better records than Rinku in the Men in Blue at present.

It is important to note that Rinku's last season's salary was INR 55 lakh, and a top retention for the Purple and Gold Brigade could take his salary up to a whopping INR 18 crore.

Why Should Rinku Singh Be KKR's Most Expensive Retained Player?

A finisher like no other, Rinku Singh has delivered when it mattered in the past. Even though his IPL numbers were all above his lofty standards last year, having got 168 runs at an average of 18.67, his outrageous record in IPL 2023, when he aggregated 474 runs at 59.25 with a strike rate reading 149.53, proved to the world what exactly he could bring to the table.

Rinku Singh's KKR Career So Far

Rinku joined KKR back in 2018, but did not make much of an impact in his first three IPL seasons. However, he made limelights in 2022, having made 174 runs across seven matches with a strike rate of 148.72 before taking his numbers to a whole new level in the following year. In all, he has tallied 893 runs in 45 matches, with an average reading 30.79.

As recent speculations emerge, KKR is likely to move on from Shreyas Iyer, Andre Russell and Mitchell Starc—three of their most important assets—in their retention list chart. These reports leave KKR with limited options to deal with. Surely, Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh, who have increased their worth significantly in recent years, will be retained at a price of INR 4 crore each.

Besides them, Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine, KKR’s USP for some time due to their unwavering impact with spin, will be safeguarded. If they do not have some internal discussions to negotiate, their price will be INR 14 Crore and INR 11 Crore, respectively.

Now, only time will tell whether Rinku will manage to justify his much-deserved price tag in the upcoming edition or settle himself as another Ishan Kishan 2.0.
