We often see Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Afghanistan's hard-hitting opener, take the big gloves behind the stumps, as wicket-keeping has been his primary job. However, since Shai Hope took the keeping responsibility, he was on the outfield for Guyana Amazon Warriors during Qualifier 1 of the CPL 2024 against St Lucia Kings.
Yet, a moment of magic was produced by Gurbaz during the 15th over of St Lucia Kings’ innings, and the way he celebrated after putting up a valiant effort showed what exactly it meant for him. In fact, it reminded fans of a fictional giant monster King Kong, who is known for his ferocious roar whenever he is angry.
While playing Shamar Joseph, du Plessis, batting on 57 off 36 balls with five fours and three sixes, tried to slam him over long-on. However, the South African veteran lost the grip of the bat while trying to play the lofted shot. As a result, he did not get the timing right, and Gurbaz covered a lot of ground before a sensational diving effort ended his stay.
Then Gurbaz brought out the King Kong celebration, while Du Plessis was upset that the carnage had not continued.
St Lucia Kings Reach CPL 2024 Final
Meanwhile, St Lucia Kings became the first team to reach the CPL 2024 final, defeating Guyana Amazon Warriors by 15 runs via the DLS method. Johnson Charles won the Player of the Match award, having struck 79 off 45 balls with eight fours and five sixes.
Gurbaz, on the other hand, could only muster 24 off 18 balls. While St Lucia Kings posted 198/5 after 20 overs, Guyana reached 106/4 after 13 overs before rain came and did not allow any further play.
