In a significant development around IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings have handed a major boost to their fans, as MS Dhoni is all set to play another season and is a part of the five stars set to be retained by the Men in Yellow for the upcoming season.
According to reports from Cricinfo, CSK will retain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Matheesha Pathirana, and MS Dhoni.
Dhoni To Play As Uncapped Star
However, the report did not mention the price at which each player will be retained. But the report mentioned that the five-times winners will spend around 65 crores availing services of these five stars and will enter the auction table with 55 crores purse value.
The report comes on the eve of deadline day for all franchises to submit retention list to BCCI. Talking about Dhoni, he will be retained as an uncapped star and his salary is likely to drop to just four crores.
Further, Dhoni will play the upcoming season as an uncapped player courtesy of BCCI's new rule allowing players who have not played international cricket for more than five years, can be retained as uncapped star.
MS Dhoni Hints at Playing In IPL 2025 During Promotional Events
A couple of days ago, MS Dhoni attended a promotional events, where he hinted at continuing for Chennai Super Kings. When asked about his IPL future, Dhoni remarked that he wants to enjoy his last few years of cricket.
"When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That's what I want to do; it's not easy. The emotions keep coming; the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years," said MSD.
Talking about CSK's other retentions, Ruturaj Gaikwad is touted to be the top-retention.
