Parthiv Patel, one of the pinnacles of Gujarat’s state team in India’s domestic circuit, is all set to join his native IPL franchise before the upcoming edition of the tournament. Patel will join the Ashish Nehra-led coaching staff as their batting mentor to improve Shubman Gill and his boys, as reported by the Times of India (TOI).
Technically, Patel will replace Gary Kirsten, who has joined Pakistan's national cricket team as their white-ball head coach. Meanwhile, Vikram Solanki, who has been there as the franchise's Director of Cricket, will continue his role.
Parthiv Patel To Join Shubman Gill's IPL Force
Before the potential GT move, Patel had been working with Mumbai Indians lately as one of their talent scouts from the domestic circuit. He even won the IPL titles along with them before deciding to retire from all forms of cricket in December 2020 and shifted his focus to talent acquisitions and commentary duties.
Ever since making his debut in IPL 2022, the Titans were impressive in the tournament under Nehra’s leadership. They won the title in the maiden campaign and finished as runner-ups in the following edition. It happened under the command of Hardik Pandya. However, things were not the same under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, as they finished eighth in the 10-team tournament, with five victories and seven defeats.
Gill Likely To Be Gujarat Titans' Top Retention Pick
As expected, the report further added that Shubman Gill, India's next poster boy, is set to be the franchise's first retention before the mega auction. The stylish batsman joined the franchise from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and has been massively successful with the Titans.
However, it will be interesting to see who will be retained alongside Gill, as the mega auction rules are trickier than ever this time around.
