The wait is over and the IPL retention deadline day is on October 31 as the teams have less than a day to finalise their retentions ahead of the auction day. The 10 teams have plethora of work to do as finalising the list is a tedious task but that is the beauty of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In this article, we will talk about Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)'s probable retention list and how the price slabs will decide the fate of the side who are gunning for their first IPL title.
Virat Kohli: RCB's Probable Most Expensive Retention
As per reports, Virat Kohli is likely to lead the RCB franchise in the IPL 2025 season. He left the captaincy in 2021, but with Faf du Plessis likely to be released, RCB management are going back to their old guard for captaincy.
He is arguably their best player and with the captaincy responsibility added, RCB will most likely retain him for the top price - 18 Cr. Currently, Virat Kohli earns 15 crore and if he gets the first retention, Kohli will earn 3 crores more. However, the franchise will hope that he can once again justify the price tag by delivering the goods on the field.
Why should RCB retain Virat Kohli for 18 Cr.?
Arguably the best player of the RCB side, Virat Kohli deserves the top retention price. He has been a loyal customer towards the side and has given his blood and sweat for the last 16-years. Kohli will also lead the side and with that added burden, he deserves the top prize money.
Virat Kohli's IPL Career in Brief
RCB showed faith in a young boy in 2008 and drafted him in their side. The rest they say is history as Kohli never looked back and created memories with the RCB team.
In 2013, he was appointed as the captain of the team and the superstar batter led RCB to their 3rd IPL final in 2016, however, they lost against SRH. In the same season, Kohli created history and smashed 973 runs, with 4 centuries under his belt.
After the 2021 season, Kohli relinquished the captaincy and gave the armband to Faf du Plessis. The legendary batter is the leading run-getter in IPL history, with 8004 runs in 252 matches.
IPL Retentions 2025: RCB's Probable List
Player Name | RCB Career | Previous Year's Salary | Potential IPL 2025 Salary |
---|---|---|---|
Will Jacks | 2024-Present | 3.20 crore | 14 crore |
Mohammed Siraj | 2018-Present | 7 crore | 11 crore |
Yash Dayal | 2024-Present | 5 crore | 4 crore (uncapped) |
A franchise can retain upto 6 players (including uncapped player), but looking at the combination, RCB are most likely retain 4 players, with Kohli earning the highest. Also, RCB will keep an eye on Rajat Patidar and will use the RTM card to get him back in the side. With the main core set, the franchise can look upto the mega auction to build a strong side for the upcoming season.
