ST-W vs HB-W Preview: Sydney Thunder Aiming To Bounce Back

Sydney Thunder Women are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table after a 31-run defeat against Hobart in the opening WBBL 2024 match. After inviting the Hurricanes to bat first, the Thunder managed to restrict the hosts to 141/7.

Samantha Bates was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/20 whereas Chamari Athapaththu snagged 2/26. Shabnim Ismail and Hannah Darlington went wicketless while Georgia Adams and Sammy-Jo Johnson picked a wicket each.

In the batting department, Sydney left much to be desired. Captain Phoebe Litchfield scored 51 off 37 balls and Anika Learoyd notched 29 off 27 deliveries. The rest of the batters struggled and couldn’t reach double digits. Players like Athapaththu, Georgia Voll, Adams, and Tahlia Wilson will need to deliver if the Thunder want to win their next game.

ST-W vs HB-W Preview: Hobart Hurricanes Aiming To Continue Winning Momentum

On the other hand, Hobart Hurricanes Women got off to a winning start and are placed at the top of the table. Nicola Carey led the charge with a solid 52 off 38 balls.

The likes of Lizelle Lee, Danielle Wyatt-Hodge, Heather Graham, and Chloe Tryon couldn’t contribute much. They’ll be looking to get amongst the runs in the upcoming game.

Hobart’s bowlers were spot-on, though. Graham bagged 3/19, while Tryon and Lauren Smith took two wickets each to bowl out Sydney for 110. The Hurricanes will aim to keep up this momentum and make it two wins in two games.

ST-W vs HB-W Pitch Report: A Balanced Pitch for Batters and Bowlers

The pitch at North Sydney Oval is a fair one for both batters and bowlers, as seen in the recent WBBL game. Batters can score well once they’re set, while pacers can get some swing with the new ball and pick up early wickets. Spinners will also enjoy some grip from the surface. Anything over 160 should be a winning total here. The captain winning the toss will likely choose to bat first.
