India suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Australia in the Pink-ball Adelaide Test match on Sunday. The visitors lost the match by 10-wickets as the home side came back from behind ti level the 5-match series.
However, India's loss was not the only setback the team had in Adelaide, star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah was injured on Day 2 of the Test match as he only bowled 4 overs in the first session before lunch. Eyebrows were raised when Rohit Sharma didn't gave a second spell to Bumrah despite picking up two wickets, but the controversy was cleared when it was realised that the pacer was injured.
In the second innings, Australia needed only 19 runs to win and they did that with utmost ease. However, what caught the attention was Bumrah's bowling speed in the solitary over which he bowled. 121.2 km/h, 125.2, 126.6, 125.4, 126.7, 131.3, these were his speed during the over, and this is not the normal standards set by Bumrah. So, the question arises, is Bumrah injured? Who will replace him in the 3rd Test if he misses it?.
Here are 3 potential replacements if Bumrah misses the next game at the iconic Gabba, Brisbane.
3) Akash Deep
The in-form pacer should have played the Pink-Ball Test in place of Harshit Rana, but was sidelined as the team preferred the KKR pacer. However, there could be a chance that Akash Deep gets his opportunity in the Gabba Test if Bumrah misses out.
He should be first in line to replace the star pacer, as he has excellent control over his lines and lengths. The Bengal pacer has been impressive in his short stay at the international level and could be in line for his away Test debut at the Gabba.
2) Prasidh Krishna
The Gabba surface is one of the fastest in the world and it also produces extra bounce. Prasidh Krishna is your typical hit the deck bowler and could utilise the conditions to his advantage at the Gabba.
He bowls at a decent pace and could be the X-factor which India requires to turn around the things in Brisbane Test. However, his Test record isn't impressive at all. In 2 matches that he has played, Krishna has only scalped 2 wickets, at an average of 65. But if Bumrah gets ruled out, India might have no choice but to go with him in the all-important game.
1) Mohammad Shami
The wild card pick here and perhaps a game-changing pick as well. There have been reports circulating that Mohammad Shami is hundred percent fit and is waiting for a green light from the BCCI to travel to Australia.
He has the experience of playing in Australian conditions and it would be a blessing for the Indian side if the experienced player returns in the red-ball squad. However, he hasn't played any international match in over a year and that could be a negative aspect, especially in this crucial encounter.
