Australia trounced India by 10 wickets in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Sunday. With this win, the hosts have levelled the five-match series 1-1 after going down in the series opener in Perth.

After electing to bat first, India started on the back foot, with Yashasvi Jaiswal departing for a golden duck off Mitchell Starc’s very first ball. 

KL Rahul and Shubman Gill steadied the ship briefly, but Starc and Scott Boland ensured the Indian batters didn’t settle. Virat Kohli fell cheaply again, nicking Starc to the slips, and Rohit Sharma couldn’t weather Boland’s probing line either.

The only bright sparks were Nitish Kumar Reddy’s fighting 42 and Ashwin’s quick-fire 22. Starc’s sensational six-wicket haul left India bundled out for just 180, giving Australia an early edge.

Australia’s reply had its hiccups but was powered by a stunning century from Travis Head. The attacking southpaw smashed a blistering 140 and countered India’s bowlers with total dominance. 

Marnus Labuschagne played his part with a steady 64, while Nathan McSweeney contributed 39. India’s bowlers fought hard, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj snagging four wickets each, but the Aussies still managed a massive 337-run total, giving them a hefty lead.

India’s second innings was another dismal show of batting Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul fell early, which put pressure on the middle order. Kohli and Rohit failed to step up again.

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant offered some resistance, but Pat Cummins turned the game on its head with a lethal spell, bagging five wickets. Nitish Kumar Reddy impressed again with a courageous 42, but it wasn’t enough.

Starc and Boland chipped in with crucial wickets and ensured India’s second innings folded for just 175, leaving Australia with a paltry 19 to chase.
