South Africa came into this game carrying confidence and momentum from the first match of the series. They defeated England by six wickets in that game and took a 1-0 lead in the series.

Even though the South African team had the confidence of winning the first match of the series, they have failed to build on that performance in this second match. England won the toss in this game and opted to field first.
