Mohammed Shami, India's experienced fast bowler, is on the radar for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keeping a close eye on his fitness as he makes a strong comeback after a long injury layoff. However, it is still not known when Shami will join the Indian cricket team. Here’s what’s happening:

After suffering a knee injury, Shami was out of action for more than a year. However, he has made a strong return to domestic cricket. He played a Ranji Trophy match for Bengal, taking an impressive seven wickets, and has since featured in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a domestic T20 tournament.

In Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the 34-year-old pacer delivered 23.3 overs across six matches, picking up five wickets. His performances have been a mix of economical spells and a few expensive outings. Despite this, he has shown promising signs of match fitness.

BCCI Currently Monitoring Mohammed Shami's Fitness

The BCCI is eager to include Shami in the Test squad but wants to ensure he is fully fit. As per a report in Cricbuzz, a team from the BCCI Sports Science department and a national selector is closely monitoring his progress in Rajkot. The BCCI will consider about including Shami in India's Test squad only after he gets a clearance from the Sports Science Department, the report added.

When Was The Last Time Shami Played For India?

Mohammed Shami was last seen in Indian colours was during the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia. His most recent Test match was in June 2023, during the World Test Championship final, also against Australia.

The decision to bring Shami back into the Test squad will depend on his performance and clearance from the BCCI’s Sports Science department. If all goes well, Shami could soon be donning the Indian whites for the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
