South African superstar, Dewald Brevis, smashed a 41-ball T20I century against Australia on Tuesday and became the youngest Proteas batter to have a T20I ton to his name. He broke several other records as the Rainbow Nation tore apart the Australian attack in a brutal assault. This was Brevis' ninth game in the shortest format, and he etched his name in history books.

ABD's special CSK tribute for Brevis

After his stunning century, Brevis' idol, and South African legend, AB De Villiers paid a fitting tribute with a special tweet.

"There was such a golden opportunity for IPL teams to pick up Dewald Brevis at the auction! Missed out badly. CSK either got very lucky, or maybe the biggest master stroke ever👏 The boy can play."

To think about it, CSK did pull off a masterclass to sign Brevis mid-season in the IPL 2025 edition. He went unsold in the mega auction, but the franchise played a punt, and replaced an injured player with Brevis.

Other IPL franchises had the opportunities to sign him, but they let neglected, and now CSK has a superstar in their hands. Here are 3 teams who missed out on a chance to sign him up.

1) Delhi Capitals

When Harry Brook pulled out of the IPL 2025, citing personal reasons, there was a void left in the Delhi Capitals' middle order. The franchise didn't sign anyone for the majority of the season, but towards the end, they splashed money on Afghanistan's Sediqullah Atal.

Eyebrows were raised, as Brevis was available for the entire season before CSK snapped him. Instead, the franchise went after a relatively unknown commodity. Had the side went after the Proteas star, they would have got a solid middle order option, something which DC lacked last season.

Had Brevis joined them early in the season, the franchise could have solved their top order woes by pushing KL Rahul at the top, and depending on the Proteas batter to solidify himself as the middle order mainstay.

2) Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR had a bizarre IPL 2025 auction, as they released the core of their side and bought players who didn't fit in their system. Their opening combination was unsettled, and the team had a middle order, which was woefully out of form - Rinku Singh, Venkatesh Iyer, Manish Pandey.

Brevis is someone who can bat in multiple positions, and he could have solved their middle-order issue. He could have batted at number 3, or could have even played at 4. But the franchise decided to stick with its out of form batters, and the result was that the franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs.

3) Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans had an interesting IPL 2025 season. They were heavily dependent on their top 3 - Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler, and when the trio failed, the middle-order batting lineup simply crumbled.

The trio of Gill, Sudharsan, and Buttler hammered a combined 1,947 runs, while the other batters failed to deliver the goods.

While the strike rate is never a question, it is the lack of runs which hurt GT as they failed to go past the Eliminator stage and lost vs MI.

This is where a Brevis comes into play. A solid option at number 4, just behind Buttler, and this would have strengthened the team with Rutherford playing at 5, and Shahrukh Khan at 6, with Tewatia at 7. But instead, they relied on their top 3, and eventually failed.
