India Test captain, Shubman Gill, etched his name in the history books as he became the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Month for July. The India batter had a tremendous England Test series as he finished as the highest run-getter on the tour. Courtesy of his performance, the visitors levelled the series, 2-2.

Gill pips Stokes to bag coveted ICC award

Gill faced stiff competition from the England captain, Ben Stokes and South Africa's Wiaan Mulder, but he came out with flying colours, smashing 567 runs, at an average of 94, including two hundreds, and a double ton. Stokes had an outstanding series against India - both with bat, and ball, and Mulder almost scored 400-runs in a single Test vs Zimbabwe, but the India captain had strong performances throughout the month, and inspired a young team with his batting.

This was Gill's first Test tour as the captain of the side, and the 25-year-old didn't disappoint, scoring a staggering 752 runs, and leading from the front to outclass the other competitors in the Player of the Month award.

"It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July," Gill said, as quoted by ICC.

"This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain.

India captain goes past Babar in huge milestone

This was Gill's fourth ICC Player of the Month award, and he surpassed Pakistan star Babar Azam to become the player with the most Player of the Month awards.

Babar and Gill had won the award three times, but now, the Indian captain is ahead in the race. Previously, Gill bagged the award in February 2025, and in January and September 2023. Meanwhile, Babar bagged the award in April 2021, March 2022, and August 2023.
