Ayush Mhatre will reportedly lead the Mumbai cricket team in the upcoming Buchi Babu Trophy 2025 season. The 18-year-old recently led the Indian Under-19 team in its youth ODI and Test tour of England.
The report further indicates that Mumbai’s Khan brothers, Sarfaraz and Musheer will also be included in the Mumbai team for the tournament.
Another Feather Loading In Ayush Mhatre’s Hat?
Ayush Mhatre is reportedly primed for yet another captaincy treat, this time for the Mumbai cricket team. As reported by a Times of India editor, Mhatre will be leading Mumbai in the upcoming Buchi Babu Trophy 2025 season.
The 18-year-old will also likely be accompanied by Indian Test star Sarfaraz Khan and his younger brother Musheer Khan in the team.
The All-India Buchi Babu Invitation Cricket Tournament 2025 is set to launch from August 18 onwards. It will run up until September 9 next month.
Ayush Mhatre Captaincy Gig In England
Ayush Mhatre recently led the Indian Under-19 team in England. Under his leadership, India Under-19 won the five-match Youth ODI series by a 3-2 margin. India also managed to level the two-match Youth Test series in Beckenham and Chelmsford in July last month with two fighting draws.
Notably, captain Ayush Mhatre blasted 126 runs off just 80 balls on the final day of the second Youth Test to make a match out of India’s tall chase of 355 runs.
Earlier this year, the youngster made his IPL debut for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise in the 2025 edition of the tournament. Aged just 17 at the time, he clattered 240 runs in seven innings at an explosive strike rate of 188.97 and with a prolific average of 34.28.
