Gambhir And Rohit's Secret Bowling Weapon Gets Ready In The Nets Ahead Of IND vs BAN, 1st Test - Watch
Yashasvi Jaiswal was seen bowling in the nets ahead of 1st Test vs Bangladesh [X]
The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, is all set to return to red-ball cricket after about six months with the first of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. This match will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and will start on Thursday, September 19.
Significance of the series to current WTC cycle
This series is of particular significance to both India and Bangladesh. The home team is currently stationed at the top of the WTC points table. They will be looking to firm their position with wins in both games of the series. On the other hand, after their sensational 2-0 win in Pakistan, Bangladesh is currently in the fourth spot in the points table. They will be looking to stun the Indian team and climb up the points table.
Ahead of the all-important first Test, the Indian team was seen having a practice session at Chepauk. In a video of the session uploaded by JioCinema on their website, Yashasvi Jaiswal, India's dynamic young opener, was seen rolling his arms over.
Yashasvi Jaiswal's bowling skill might be used in the Bangladesh series
The southpaw can bowl right-arm leg spin, which was evident during India's Test series against England earlier this year. However, his practising his wrist spin in the nets might indicate that the management is looking to use his bowling skills more against Bangladesh.
Recent reports suggested that India might go in with three pacers and two spinners for the first match. Sharma and Gambhir might be planning to keep Jaiswal ready to use during the match to prevent the overexhaustion of their main spinners.
Gautam Gambhir's strategy to use par-time bowlers
Using the batters' par-time bowling skills seems to be a trend of the Gautam Gambhir era. Earlier during the Sri Lanka T20I series, some of the other batters, like Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, and Shubman Gill, were seen rolling their arms over. So, if Yashasvi is seen bowling during the Bangladesh series, it will not be a big surprise. However, the move might catch the Bangladesh batters unprepared.
