The IPL 2025 mega auction is done and dusted and all the ten teams have finalised their squads for the upcoming season. Almost all the sides have invested heavily to improve their squads and today's focus will be on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
The RCB management were shrewd in their picks and instead of buying superstar players, the team went after solid T20 players to make up a really strong squad for the 2025 season.
Hence, ahead of the IPL 2025 season, we look at 3 key reasons why RCB are the firm favourites to win the IPL title next year.
3) Virat Kohli is back as the captain
It is all but confirmed that Virat Kohli, the legendary batter will be back as the captain of the RCB team for the next season. Eyebrows were raised when RCB didn't bid for any captaincy material in the auction, but as per hints given by the management, they have asked Kohli to lead the team once again.
He left the captaincy in 2021 and has unfinished business as the captain of the team. Under his leadership, team only reached the finals once in 2016, and now towards the twilight of his career, Kohli will have the fire to finally deliver the goods for his team. Plus, the team will be motivated to perform for the absolute legend of the IPL.
2) Finally, a well rounded pace attack for RCB
It has been a long time that RCB have had a well-formed pace attack. Josh Hazlewood will be the leader of the pace attack and he'll form a deadly trio alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yash Dayal.
RCB's biggest weakness has been their death overs bowling, and with the inclusion of Nuwan Thushara, the regen of Lasith Malinga, that problem will also be solved as the Sri Lankan bowler is known for his deadly yorker.
1) A power-packed middle-order for RCB
Over the years, RCB have followed a trend of investing heavily in their top order and not concentrating on their middle and lower order.
However, this season, the trend changed. The likes of Rajat Patidar, Liam Livingstone, Tim David, Jitesh Sharma and Krunal Pandya form a brilliant middle order. No longer the team has to be dependent on Virat Kohli to be the lone warrior.
Instead, the middle order prowess can take the responsibility and be the saviour this season. Add Phil Salt and Jacob Bethell in the list and the batting looks formidable, unlike before.
