England’s Harry Brook, the latest addition to the Delhi Capitals squad after the IPL 2025 mega auction, has etched his name in cricket’s history books, joining the ranks of the legendary Vivian Richards.
Brook equalled the West Indies great by becoming the joint-sixth-fastest to reach 2000 Test runs, achieving the milestone in just 36 innings. This feat was accomplished during his 22nd Test match against New Zealand in the ongoing three-match series.
Brook parallels legends in 2000 run feat
At just 25 years old, Harry Brook’ has shown promise in his Test cricket career. He now shares the record for reaching the 2000-run mark in the fewest innings with not only Richards but also Australian legend Arthur Morris, and the iconic West Indian players Everton Weekes and Frank Worrell.
However, the ultimate benchmark remains with Australian legend Don Bradman, who astonishingly reached 2000 Test runs in just 22 innings, a record that has stood since 1931 when he accomplished the feat against South Africa.
Ahead of the current innings against New Zealand, Brook has racked up 1,931 runs in just 35 innings with 6 test centuries to his name. That gives him an impressive average of 56.79 and a solid strike rate of 87.73 which are impressive numbers that show off his aggressive but reliable playing style.
Brook's Career So Far
Besides his success in Test cricket, Brook has been a solid player in both T20 and ODI formats. This could be one reason why the Delhi Capitals owners decided to pick him up for INR 6.5 crore at the auction, even though his IPL stats aren’t the strongest.
The versatile batter has played 20 ODI matches, scoring a total of 719 runs, which gives him an average of 39.94 and a strike rate of 106.83. Additionally, he has participated in 144 T20 matches, where he amassed 3,358 runs at a strike rate of 150.04, including three centuries.
