The official confirmation is here, Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the new Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor for the upcoming IPL season.

The post was left vacant when Gautam Gambhir became the head coach of the Indian cricket team, and ahead of the next season, the LSG owner acted swiftly and appointed the former India pacer as their mentor.

Current crop of pacers will benefit from Zaheer's arrival

LSG pacers will be benefitted with the arrival of Zaheer. The squad currently boasts some of the best pacers in the league, and Zaheer is someone who can refine their skills.

The LSG team have some of the best pacers in the IPL, with the likes of Mohsin Khan, young sensation Mayank Yadav and Yash Thakur hogging the limelight. The former India speedster, Zaheer has a young crop of players to work with, something which he can relish. Despite being top-tier bowlers, consistency is missing from their, and the veteran bowler is the right fit to change this aspect about the LSG bowlers.

Talking about Mayank Yadav, he is young, and dynamic, but injuries has taken a toll on his body. Both Zaheer and Mayank have similarities between them. In his early career, Zaheer, too, was injury prone and worked hard on it to become one of India's greatest bowlers.

With his own experience, he can guide Mayank Yadav, not only to recover from his injury and keep his body fit, but also to maintain particular lines and lengths while bowling.
