On Wednesday, August 28, Lucknow Super Giants announced that they have hired former India seamer Zaheer Khan as their new mentor ahead of IPL 2025.

LSG took to Twitter to unveil Khan as their new mentor. Notably, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka held a press conference, where they announced roping in Khan to their set-up.

Previously, Zaheer was associated with Mumbai Indians as director of cricket and then head of global development.

For a few days, there were lot of speculations over Zaheer leaving MI to join LSG. Although, contrary to reports that mentioned Khan might join the KL Rahul-led side as a bowling coach, he will act as a mentor.

Sanjiv Goenka Breaks Silence On KL Rahul's Future With LSG

In the same press conference, RevSports reported that Goenka shrugged off rumours of KL Rahul leaving LSG for RCB and stated that KL is like a family to them.

“I don’t want to comment on speculation. All I will say is KL Rahul is family,” Sanjeev Goenka said, as quoted by RevSportz Global.

The speculations started after Goenka had an animated conversation with KL Rahul on-field after LSG's embarrassing defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024.

Will Zaheer Khan Perform Dual Role In LSG?

LSG dealt a heavy blow ahead of IPL 2025 after their bowling coach Morne Morkel left the KL Rahul-led side to join India as their bowling coach and work with Gautam Gambhir.

Thus, it is unclear whether Khan would also act as the bowling coach or the Giants will hire someone for that role.
