Devdutt Padikkal is setting his sights on making a significant impact in the upcoming Duleep Trophy as he aims to bolster his chances to secure a permanent spot in India's middle order for the upcoming international season.  

The 24-year-old southpaw, made a promising Test debut against England in Dharamsala earlier this year as he scored a composed 65 off 103 balls.

The stylish batter has also been named in Team D for the Duleep Trophy, set to begin on September 5. He will be playing under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer in this red-ball tournament. 

In a recent interview, the Karnataka batter expressed himself and stated that he is eager to play the Duleep trophy and contribute significantly. 

"Yes, the Duleep Trophy is a very important tournament. You don't get too many opportunities at the highest level, so it's crucial that I continue to score runs. Going into that game, I felt ready. I felt like I had earned that spot. Playing a lot of domestic cricket and scoring heavily in the Ranji Trophy gave me the confidence to perform. Test cricket is a challenging format, and I need to keep focusing on areas where I can improve." Padikkal was quoted as saying by India Today.

Nonetheless, he is committed to giving his best in the domestic tournaments to earn another opportunity to don the whites for India. He also stated that test cricket is a challenging format and that contributing to this format is essential for any player.

Devdutt Padikkal has made his presence felt in the ongoing Maharaja Trophy 2024, as he represents Gulbarga Mystics. 

He has made valuable contributions and scored 240 runs in nine matches, he has maintained a respectable average of 26.66 and an impressive strike rate of 138.72. As the Mystics head into the knockout stages, Padikkal's performances with the bat will be crucial for their success.
