Former Indian world cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has supported Virat Kohli in his fight against BCCI’s family rules for overseas tours. He opined that while family is important to any player, there has to be a blend to ensure players' focus stays on cricket.

In the aftermath of India’s defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, BCCI laid down strict rules for family accompanying players on overseas tours.

According to new guidelines, family members will only be allowed to stay with the team for a certain period of time and not for the entire tour. However, Virat Kohli isn’t impressed with the new directives.

Kapil Dev Sides With Kohli But There’s A Catch

Virat Kohli opined that cricketers face many mental challenges while being away from their families on overseas tours. He added that having family members present is also emotionally comforting for the players, keeping them refreshed mentally during grueling tours.

Meanwhile, Kapil Dev, India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain, echoed Kohli’s sentiments while speaking at the Grant Thornton Invitational Golf Tournament trophy unveiling ceremony.

He stated that while cricket must remain the primary focus, family presence plays a crucial role in keeping players mentally relaxed.

"I think that's a cricket board's call. Mine is, yes, you need a family, but yes, you need a team also all the time. In our time, we used to say to ourselves, not by the cricket board, the first half let me play cricket. In the second half, the families should come there and enjoy it too. It should be blend," said Kapil Dev.

But he did add that there has to be a blend in family time as well to ensure players’ key focus stays on the game.

Virat Kohli Slams Broadcasters For Talking About Personal Life

Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli has expressed his frustration over broadcasters frequently discussing his personal life, especially his favourite food spots, instead of focusing on cricket. Speaking at an event, Kohli called for a shift in the way sports are covered, emphasising that discussions should revolve around players' performances, training, and game strategies, rather than trivial personal details.
