The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering potential changes to its family stay policy, allowing players to have their families accompany them for longer periods during foreign tours, according to sources (Vipul Kashyap/ANI).
The modification, which would require prior approval from the board, aims to provide players with better personal support during extended tours.
New Policy Post-Disappointing BGT
The shift in the family stay policy was made after India's below-par performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. Despite a strong start in Perth, the Rohit Sharma-led side lost the series 3-1, marking Australia's first Test series victory over India since 2014/15.
As a result, the BCCI implemented strict guidelines limiting family stays, allowing players' partners and children to join tours of more than 45 days only after the first two weeks, with stays capped at 14 days.
Alongside this, there were restrictions on personal staff and commercial engagements during the series, with mandatory approvals from the selection committee chairman and head coach for any exceptions.
Will BCCI Changes Its Rule On Family Restrictions?
According to reports by ANI, the BCCI will likely revised family stay policy and it could come into effect during India’s upcoming five-match Test series in England, scheduled from June 20 to August 4. Players could potentially apply for extended family stays, but it remains to be seen whether the board will grant such requests.
The new policy will likely aim to balance the players' well-being with the professional requirements of cricket.
In the meantime, Indian players will return to action for the upcoming IPL 2025, starting on March 22. The season will kick off with the opening match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.
