'You Can't Fix It,' Broadcasting Legend Slams ICC For Pre-Determining IND vs PAK Games

Former England cricketer David Lloyd has castigated the International Cricket Council (ICC) for pre-determining India vs Pakistan matches in major tournaments like ODI World Cups, T20 World Cups and Champions Trophy.

Since the 2013 edition of the Champions Trophy in England, the apex body has been drawing arch-rivals India and Pakistan in same groups for their own commercial interests, according to Lloyd.

The cricket expert believes that the ICC should not be fixing such events and should instead be drawing playing groups at random in order to be fair towards other competing nations and their fans.

David Lloyd slams ICC for prioritising IND vs PAK

Former England batsman David Lloyd has launched a scathing attack on ICC for commercialising the cricketing rivalry between India and Pakistan by deliberately putting the two nations in the same playing group.

While speaking on TalkSPORT, Lloyd implied that by fixing India vs Pakistan matches in big events, the apex body is pre-deciding an ‘event’ for spectators to look forward to, instead of picking teams at random. He said:

“The romance of anything like this is if they get drawn together… there’s something for spectators to look forward to. If it happens, it becomes an event. You can’t fix it.”

India and Pakistan also came to terms with each other in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup on June 9.

In a low-scoring thriller played out at New York’s Nassau County International Stadium, the Men in Blue emerged victorious by six runs, courtesy of match-winning spells from Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Siraj.

While the Pakistan cricket team subsequently suffered a first-round exit from the tournament, the Indian team is currently prepping up to face England in the second semifinal on June 27.
