Karun Nair's absence from the recent India A squad has ignited fresh speculation about his international future. The Karnataka batter, who missed the Maharaja Trophy due to a finger injury sustained during the final Test in England, was a notable omission from the team set to face Australia A.

Instead, the selectors have entrusted Shreyas Iyer, himself left out of the Asia Cup squad, with the captaincy for the two four-day matches in Lucknow.

Selectors Moving On From Karun Nair After England Series

This move suggests the national selection committee may be moving on from the 33-year-old Nair. While he is believed to be still recuperating and has posted social media updates on his fitness, his exclusion in favour of Iyer is being viewed as a significant signal. His recent Test series against England was also underwhelming, further complicating his path back to the national team.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra suggested that Karun's future does not look good, and he might not be named in the squad for the upcoming home series against the West Indies, starting October 2.

"Unfortunately, it looks like you won't see Karun Nair playing further. He is not unavailable. He is fit and then not picked; it seems that the selectors have decided to look past Karun Nair. Shreyas is interesting. He was not picked for the Asia Cup, and there was a lot of backlash. Now he finds himself at the helm of the India A team," said Chopra on his YouTube channel.

For Karun, the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy was underwhelming. He managed only 205 runs in eight innings, with just one fifty at The Oval, as a series of underwhelming performances was on show even after being backed by Gautam Gambhir and the Indian think tank after repeated failures from the start.
