Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan once again stirred up a storm on social media, this time on X (formerly known as Twitter), as he voiced his astonishment over star cricketers Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer being left out of the BCCI central contracts for the 2023–24 season.

Expressing his disbelief, Pathan highlighted the absence of Kishan and Iyer from the contract list, emphasising their exclusion due to missing out on domestic red-ball matches.

In his tweet, Pathan expressed hope for the duo's strong comeback and questioned the consistency of rules, especially in reference to star all-rounder Hardik Pandya's inclusion despite his limited participation in red-ball cricket.

The decision to exclude Kishan and Iyer from the central contracts followed their absence from respective Ranji Trophy clashes, citing injuries and workload management. Kishan's recent statement regarding his readiness for red-ball cricket further fueled discussions. In response, the BCCI emphasized its commitment to penalizing players prioritizing the IPL over domestic cricket.

Previously categorized under BCCI's Grade B and C contracts, Iyer and Kishan found themselves entirely omitted from the new season's list. In light of this, Iyer resolved to participate in the Ranji Trophy semi-final for Mumbai, gearing up simultaneously for his leadership role with the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024.

The contracts for the 2023-24 season, effective from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024, entail automatic inclusion in Grade C category based on players' participation in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is within the stipulated period.
