As per emerging reports, talented Indian batter Rajat Patidar will likely be dropped from the playing XI for the fifth Test against England in Dharamsala.

Despite being given enough opportunities, Patidar has failed to make a mark in the series, managing 63 runs across six innings at a mediocre average. Therefore, considering his poor form, India might decide to move on from the batter for the final dead-rubber.

If Patidar is dropped from the playing XI, left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal might make his Test debut. The southpaw showcased remarkable consistency in the Ranji Trophy 2024, amassing 556 runs in six innings at a phenomenal average of 92.66.

Meanwhile, skipper Rohit Sharma will continue to open alongside the in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal, with Shubman Gill, Padikkal, Sarfaraz and Dhruv Jurel slotted in the middle order.

Veteran all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin will play as the spin bowling options, while ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah might return to the playing XI, as the conditions in Dharamsala will be seam-friendly. He might replace Kuldeep Yadav, with Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep assisting him in the pace department.
