The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon has assured senior batter Tamim Iqbal that he will be looking into the cricketer’s allegations surrounding his exclusion from Bangladesh’s World Cup 2023 team. While speaking with the reporters, Papon claimed that he would come to a conclusion after the launch of the 2024 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon recently met senior Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal for the first time since he was excluded from the team’s World Cup 2023 squad over “fitness concerns." However, back in late September, Tamim took to social media and alleged that his heated argument with one of the senior BCB officials had led to his exclusion instead.

While speaking with the reporters, Papon said that he heard all of Tamim’s concerns, but will only be making any formal decision after the launch of the BPL 2024 season, considering all Bangladesh players and coaching staff members will be present at the time of the tournament. He said:

“After the election, when the BPL starts, all the players will be here, the coaching staff will also be here. In that time I can collect all information and then take the decision that will benefit our cricket the most.”

Papon added that he wants to fix Bangladesh cricket by any means necessary by the time his term as BCB President ends. Currently in his third term, the cricket administrator stated that he is willing to take even the most difficult of decisions in his final year of BCB presidency.

The Bangladesh team, meanwhile, became one of the earliest sides to crash out of the 2023 World Cup semi-final race in India earlier this month. Under Shakib Al Hasan’s leadership, the team suffered seven losses out of their nine league fixtures, including a huge defeat at the hands of the lower-seeded Netherlands.

Finishing at number eight on the 2023 World Cup points table, Bangladesh barely managed to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
