Rinku Singh, mere days after powering India to a remarkable run-chase win over Australia, belted the same Australian attack with a thunderous death-overs cameo in their second T20I of the series.

The dynamic southpaw scorched the visitors attack with 31 unbeaten runs from just nine balls, and his late-overs surge catapulted the Indian total to a colossal 235-4 off their 20 overs. The total turned out to be 44 runs better than Australia’s best run-chase efforts in the evening, allowing the ‘Men in Blue’ to go 2-0 up in their five-match rubber.

After the match, Rinku spoke about his batting strategy and praised stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav for maintaining a healthy dressing room environment.

After bludgeoning the visiting Australian attack with a match-winning 9-ball 31*, Rinku Singh said that he approaches every ball on its merit. Speaking during a post-match session, he said:

“I think about playing a ball at its merit. I don't overthink it. I see the ball, wait for it and then hit according to the pace whether its a slower ball or a quick ball.”

The 26-year-old further praised the leadership attributes of stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav and claimed that the current dressing room environment is quite “enjoyable”. He added:

“The dressing room environment is quite enjoyable. I am enjoying my time with everyone and with Surya as a captain. Feeling good.”

Rinku Singh stated that he is well aware of his role as a finisher, claiming he is used to arriving at the crease during the backend of the innings. The hard-hitting batsman said that he has been given full freedom to bat in the way he wants to by stand-in head coach VVS Laxman.

“My work is to finish the innings. I bat at 6 so might sometimes get 5-6 overs to bat, sometimes even 3 or 2. I keep that in my mind and try to bat through the innings and finish it. I practice accordingly in the nets to bat in the last 5-6 overs. VVS Laxman sir asks me to bat just the way I bat in the final few overs.”

Rinku Singh will now turn up for the Indian team in their third T20I match against Australia on November 28. The much-awaited fixture is set to be hosted by the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.
