Gujarat Titans Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki has revealed that it was Hardik Pandya who wanted to return to his original IPL franchise (Mumbai Indians) after they made the trade on IPL 2024 retention day.

Pandya started out his IPL journey through the Mumbai Indians camp back in 2015. However, the all-round maverick ended his seven-year association with the franchise by joining new-entrants Gujarat Titans ahead of the 2022 chapter of the tournament.

GT Director says management respects Pandya’s decision

Gujarat Titans Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki has said that it was Hardik Pandya who expressed his desire of returning to Mumbai Indians franchise.

Solanki further claimed that the management respects his decision, and wish him all the best for his future endeavors. He said:

“As the first captain of Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya has helped the franchise deliver two fantastic seasons that resulted in winning one IPL championship and one appearance in the final. He has now expressed a desire to return to his original team Mumbai Indians. We respect his decision and wish him all the very best in his future endeavors.”

With Hardik Pandya’s exit, Gujarat Titans announced batting prodigy Shubman Gill as their new captain going ahead.

Pandya had joined the Titans camp in their maiden IPL outing in 2022 and led them to historic title triumph by defeating Rajasthan Royals in the final. The cricketer also led his side to another appearance in the final the following season, where they fell just short of MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad.

Pandya will now be seen headlining the Mumbai Indians outfit in IPL 2024 alongside the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav.
