ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 is just seven months away, and ahead of the big ICC event, rumours and speculations of all kinds are surfacing over the internet. IIn the first of many, Indian captain Rohit Sharma's participation came under the scanner.

As per reports from multiple media outlets, the skipper has requested that BCCI not to consider him for the shorter format henceforth. He wants to utilize whatever time's left in his storied career towards the betterment of tests and ODIs.

After Rohit, even Virat Kohli's participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup is uncertain. He relinquished the shorter format captaincy a couple of years ago and has expressed a serious inclination towards red ball cricket.

Also, fatigue plays a major role. The coexistence of international and franchise cricket has been nothing short of a nightmare for a player playing all three formats of the game on a regular basis.

However, Indian wicket-keeper and commentator Dinesh Karthik refuted the unverified claims. In an interview with CricBuzz, Karthik says he is certain that the pillars of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, will turn up for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Karthik added that the players will require an adequate amount of time to come to terms with the ODI World Cup loss, as Rohit and Virat were playing their last-ever 50-over ICC event. Also, with the kind of efforts Sharma and Kohli put in during the past two months, be it scoring runs or handling the field, the loss will hurt the most.

However, Dinesh feels the heartbreak won't certainly pose a roadblock. That won't encourage them to neglect a format completely. Instead, the defeat will only add extra motivation.

Additionally, the T20 World Cup is just 6-7 months away. Thus, it's unideal for the veterans to leave the team hanging right before the big event.
