The Indian cricket team is scheduled to clash with the Aussies in a five-game T20 series starting on November 23, 2023. Due to the minimal gap between the ODI World Cup and the bilateral series, the core group of the Indian side has been asked to rest and sit this one out.

Instead, a B-team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will host the arch-nemesis in the T20 series. Among the young bridges selected for the challenge, seamer Mukesh Kumar is eyeing making the most of this rare opportunity.

Kumar, who burst onto the international scene earlier this year, is elated to face one of the best sides in world cricket. Moreover, with the T20 World Cup barely seven months away, the pacer is eyeing the ultimate spot in the final squad.

In an exclusive interview with Jio Cinema, Mukesh Kumar expressed his desire to don his national colours on a regular basis. He does not want to be someone who constantly gets shuffled in and out. Rather, Kumar is aiming to make an impact so profound to put the selection committee in a fix.

"I want to regularly play for my country, that will be my first achievement. I want to continue focusing on the processes. I am seeing the results of sticking to them, so, I want to keep focusing and moving forward,” said Mukesh Kumar.

Mukesh Kumar further credited his IPL experience for shaping his skills and mental toughness. He feels high-pressure IPL games prepare you for the worst-case scenario and is a great source of exposure with respect to the international scene. 

Lastly, the pacer recalled his struggling days and how his life came full circle when he met his heroes in the Indian dressing room for the first time earlier this year.

"When I first saw my India teammates, my mind stopped functioning briefly. I thought these were the players I watched on TV till yesterday and today I was getting a chance to warm up and share the dressing room with them,” he added.

Undoubtedly, Mukesh Kumar is a great talent with loads of potential waiting to be explored. Hopefully, the upcoming T20 series against Australia will set the tone for his thriving international career.
