With the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 just a few months away, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have already started investing and grooming young players for the marquee event, as seen with the selection of Team India for their T20Is against Australia.

As selectors turn to younger, and more agile players, the future of veterans like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli remains unclear, who are nearing the twilight of their respective careers. Both Kohli and Sharma, last featured in a major 20-overs tournament for India in the T20 World Cup 2022, where the former scored the most runs, and the latter led the nation Down Under.

As reported by Dainik Jagran, the BCCI is in no mood to forcefully take any decision regarding both player's future in T20 cricket and is leaving the call to Sharma and Kohli, respectively.

Both players looked in peak form in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, where Kohli finished as the leading run-getter (765), and Sharma was second-best (597), proving their fitness as well apart from skills.

BCCI also states that if Sharma decides to move on from T20I, only then will Hardik Pandya will captain Team India.

Kohli and Sharma are the top two run-scorers in T20I, having slammed 4,008 and 3,853 runs, respectively, with the latter apperaing in all the eight editions of the T20 World Cup since 2007.
