Recently, talismanic Indian batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma shocked the entire cricketing nation, announcing retirement from Test cricket. While Rohit decided to hang up his boots following his horrendous returns in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Kohli's retirement was deemed a bit premature by cricket fans and experts.

Will Kohli, Rohit Lose A+ Contract? BCCI Secretary Answers

The BCCI recently released the list of its contracted players. While Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were reinstated, the cricketing body included Kohli and Rohit in the A+ category.

Now, as the legendary duo has retired from Tests and T20Is, their fans are curious to know if Rohit and Kohli will retain their contracts.

However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has cleared the air regarding the players' potential demotion. Speaking to ANI, Mr Saikia revealed that both Kohli and Rohit would retain their contract and get all facilities of the A+ category.

"Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's grade At contract will continue despite their retirement from the T20ls and Tests. They are still part of the Indian cricket team, and they will get all the facilities of Grade A+," Devajit Saikia was quoted as saying by ANI.

Thus, as per the BCCI central contracts, Kohli and Rohit will receive a whopping amount of INR 7 Crores. The other players included in the category are Jasprit Bumrah and ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. While Bumrah is an all-format player, Jadeja's participation has been limited to ODIs and Tests following his T20I retirement in June last year.

Kohli, Rohit's Retirement Paves Way For Transition

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Tests, the Indian team is all set to undergo transition in the purest format. If reports are to be believed, young batter Shubman Gill could be appointed as India's new Test captain, with Rishabh Pant likely to replace Jasprit Bumrah as the vice-captain.

Furthermore, the likes of Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh might receive their maiden Test call-ups, forming the road map for a smooth transition in Test cricket.
