After Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Tests two days ago, the news shook the entire world. From fans to stars across industries, disbelief poured in over his sudden exit from the longest format.
As the news left everyone stunned, famous Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar requested King Kohli to reconsider his retirement decision as he thinks there is a lot of cricket left in him.
Javed Akhtar’s Urge To Kohli
Within a few days of Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Tests, Kohli dropped a bombshell, announcing his retirement from the longest format. Within a span of a few days, Indian fans were heartbroken twice. Kohli’s retirement didn’t sit well with the fans to celebrities as they couldn’t believe 14 years of legacy in the longest format has come to an end now.
As the urges of the reconsideration of Kohli’s retirement are sparking attention, veteran poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar also joined the chorus. Labeling it a premature exit, Akhtar urged Kohli to rethink his decision, believing the star batter still has much to offer to the game.
“Obviously, Virat knows better but as an admirer of This great player I am disappointed by his rather premature retirement from Test cricket cricket. I think there is still a lot of cricket in him. I sincerely request him to reconsider his decision,” Javed Akhtar said.
Team India Will Miss Kohli’s Brilliance In England
After making his debut in Tests, Virat Kohli has created his own legacy with his brilliance. After smashing a spectacular ton in the Perth Test last year, he struggled in the last few matches, but his decision to retire from the longest format was a shock to everyone. Scoring 9230 runs in 123 matches, along with 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, showcased his brilliance in Tests.
After he hung up his boots, Team India is set to step into the upcoming Test series against England, marking the first away tour in his absence. With 1,976 runs in 50 innings against England, including five centuries, Kohli’s consistency at No. 4 was a backbone for the team. In challenging English conditions, his presence would have been a crucial weapon. As the King bids farewell, Team India will try hard to deliver their best in his absence.
